The School welcomes Tarkett Australia as a new Technical Partner

The Supply Chain Sustainability School is delighted to welcome Tarkett Australia as a new Technical Partner - one of our growing league of leaders. We spoke with Reza Karani, the Technical Marketing and Sustainability Manager at Tarkett, about sustainability, supply chains and leadership:

Q. Reza, it's great to have you on board - what prompted Tarkett to become a School Technical Partner?

A. "Sustainability is a broad topic for Tarkett which influences many different parts of the business. To grow our organisation, while taking care of social equity and respecting the environment, we need to be constantly educating ourselves, our supply chain and our customers. The School can help us to achieve this through the wide range of easily available education materials."

Q. Tell us a little about Tarkett - what do you do and where are your supply chains located, in Australia or around the world?

A. "Tarkett is a worldwide leader of innovative flooring and sports surface solutions, offering a wide range of products including carpet, wood, linoleum, rubber, vinyl, laminate, synthetic turf and athletic tracks. The Group serves customers in more than 100 countries worldwide. We are committed to 'Doing Good. Together', a philosophy based on embracing Cradle to Cradle® principles and promoting the circular economy. Tarkett's supply chain is as broad as the group all around the world."

Q. How important is sustainability to Tarkett - across the broader economic, environmental and social issues?

A. "Sustainability sits at the heart of our strategy. We design products that deliver optimal performance, promote healthy living and respect natural resources. Our design philosophy is inspired by the circular economy; it offers our customers the opportunity both to respect the environment and advance their sustainability goals. In particular, we provide flooring made with healthy materials that can be recovered, recycled and transformed into new products."

Q. Apart from collaborating with the School, how are you working with your supply chains on better outcomes?

A. "At Tarkett we have strict rules when selecting our supply chain partners. Based on the Cradle to Cradle® approach, it's important that we know and demonstrate the ingredients that are our raw materials, and that we assess the social fairness in all parts of our supply chain and continuously optimise it. There are also other significant commitments that help us improve our supply chain quality and transparency e.g. using Best Environmental Practice (BEP) PVC."

Q. Any great sustainability or supply chain innovations that you'd like to share with us?

A. "The world's greatest sustainability challenges require co-operation and partnership across industries and supply chains. We encourage our customers and all our stakeholders to join us in working towards positive change. Importantly, we undertake to communicate our sustainability progress transparently, and provide our customers with clear information about our products and ambitions."
