About Laing O’Rourke

Laing O’Rourke is a privately owned engineering enterprise with 50 years of involvement in the Australian construction and infrastructure industry and more than a decade of international experience delivering sustainable, high-performance engineering and construction services.

The business is currently delivering some of Australia’s most exciting projects across the transport, building, defence, airports, mining, civil and social infrastructure sectors such as Central Station Metro, Future Submarine Programme, Armadale to North Lake Bridge, and the University of Sydney Health and Engineering Technology Building(s).

Laing O’Rourke is committed to becoming the recognised leader for innovation and engineering excellence in the construction industry, has twice been named as one of Australia’s Top 10 most innovative businesses by BRW Magazine and has collected several industry awards for outstanding performance and leadership in sustainability.

Sustainability is an integral part of fulfilling our corporate vision and as an enduring engineering enterprise, we are implementing a strategy which aims to create sustainable growth by meeting the environmental, social and economic opportunities and challenges of our rapidly changing world.

“The Schools work to help upskill and support the supply chain on sustainability has made a real positive difference to our business and the industry.

The resources and collaborative learning environment the School has set-up has and will continue to play an important role to promote and influence the right skills, services and products to match the sustainability needs on our projects.”

Why are we involved in the School?

Laing O’rourke engages with thousands of businesses – from sole traders and small businesses to medium-sized and large organisations – and so we’re keen to work with our suppliers and ensure that we are all speaking the same language, understand our sustainability priorities, and learn as we go.

Organisations of all sizes are signing up to the School so they can grow the skills and knowledge of their people, make more informed, sustainable and cost-effective decisions, operate more efficiently and sustainably, and become more competitive in today’s market. Because the e-learning modules correspond directly to our objectives, suppliers will be better placed to understand what these requirements mean to them and we will be in a better position to meet the environmental, economic and social goals of our projects.

Laing O’Rourke has partnered with the Supply Chain Sustainability School to provide free sustainability learning resources for staff, key contractors, suppliers and partners, so that not just every project – but every part of the supply chain – can be more sustainable.
